Customer Randy Bates - A Spotlight On Mount Pleasant Branch

Recently, we were excited to receive a letter from a Mount Pleasant branch customer named Randy Bates who just couldn't say enough good things about banking at First Reliance Bank. Randy has his personal accounts with us, and he relies on us for his business banking too. From friendly employees to special programs, Randy told us that he's had outstanding service at our Mount Pleasant branch.

We appreciate that Randy would take the time to write to us, and we thought you'd like to learn a little about him and his experience with our bank.

First Reliance Bank Customer Randy BatesThe youngest of 3 kids, Randy grew up outside of Charlotte, N.C. in the small town of Gastonia. When he was 15, his parents relocated to South Carolina – but that didn't stop him from opting for Carolina Blue and eventually becoming a Tar Heel. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill, he spent one year teaching high school English before deciding to give law school a shot at Mercer University in Macon, Ga.

He is President of an asset management company (that manages multiple LLCs and entities) by the name of Evergreen Endeavors. He was recruited by his dad to help turn the company around during economic depression and switch their business model to investing in private companies.

Evergreen Endeavors' main areas of focus are Charlotte, N.C., Boone, N.C., Charleston, S.C., and surrounding areas (an hour out from each city).

“All of the accounts we have and checks from various projects that we get create an administrative nightmare,” Randy said. “First Reliance was very helpful in getting a special system set up for us. They were understanding about our unique business model. They helped us craft a solution for a somewhat complicated problem, and once they got it up and running, it was easy.”

Randy says that the Mount Pleasant team members helped make that effort simpler with their dedication and good-natured approach to the challenge. That focus on finding practical solutions and building strong personal service relationships meant a lot.

“I know everyone by their first names, and they know me. More importantly, they want to know my name,” Randy said. “From Joe Campbell to Casey Carbery, to Leslie Royston, they all make me feel welcome.”

Randy also is generous with his praise for our special programs and support of the Mount Pleasant community where he lives with wife Laura, children Tripp (age 4) and Wallace (age 2.5), and a dog named Max.

“First Reliance offers products that people naturally like such as the ATM refund policy,” says Randy. “My wife is a pediatric nurse practitioner so we enjoy the advantages of the Hometown Heroes program. It's great to see how First Reliance is consistently involved in charities and other activities in the community. This is a bank that has a great presence in Mount Pleasant.”
