Winston-Salem is located near the center of North Carolina and is known for its business and community diversity. Affectionately knows as the “Twin City” (due to its hyphenated name), Winston-Salem was named by the New York Times and Wall Street Journal as possessing the second-most livable downtown area in America.
The area has recently enjoyed a population boom due to its commitment to both the arts and business growth. In fact, the city’s population grew by 23.6% from 2000 to 2010, making it the fourth-largest city in the state of North Carolina. Traditionally associated with the textile and tobacco industries, Winston-Salem has evolved into a hub of commerce thanks to multiple nano-tech, high-tech, and medical research companies that have chosen the town as their headquarters.
Popular Winston-Salem attractions include:
Tanglewood Park – the park is located on the Yadkin River and offers a pool, lazy river, tennis courts, and walking trails. Tanglewood Park is also home to the Festival of Lights, a drive-through light show, that is ranked as a “Top 20” event in the southeast.
Hanes Mall – a two story shopping center covering 1,558,860 square feet, Hanes Mall is home to over 200 stores and is the largest shopping mall in the state of North Carolina.
Wake Forest Innovation Quarter – the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter is home to more than 170 companies, 3,700 employees, and more than 8,000 workplace trainees. The Innovation Quarter is one of the fastest-growing urban districts in the United States and is made up of over 1.9 million square feet of office, laboratory, and educational spaces.
